| Rating: five stars. "Let's `Learn All We Can!" is a book that I read at the beginning of the year to promote positive reinforcement and motivation. It starts off with "`Learning is fun!' said P.K. to Ben. `It's all about try, try again!'" The story goes on to talk about how you should learn to be the best that you can be. (One thing that I always emphasize in my class is that I only look for your best, not for perfection. I tell them that I am not perfect, but that I always do my very best. This really makes my students look at things differently and not feel as pressured.) This book goes on to talk about what you will do in school: learn how to read and write, learn numbers, learn rules to keep you safe, meet new friends, work on computers, do homework to keep you smart, go to bed early... (It really is a great book to have because young children remember almost everything that is said to them, and this book's message is one to be remembered!) After reading this story, we have a class discussion to recall and retell. I then ask them if there is anything else that could be added to this book to help children learn all that they can. They are to take this thought back to their desks and write it down (with or without a supporting illustration) on a piece of paper. When they are all finished, I collect their writings and create a bulletin board outside our classroom entitled "Let's Learn All We Can!". | |
