| As a boy and a girl go about their day, their activities and experiences illustrate a range of antonyms (inside/outside, low/high, far/close, etc.). Pretty standard fare--except that Grejniec once again applies the ingenious technique that gave so much character to his recent What Do You Like? Uncluttered watercolor compositions, executed on textured paper, are magnified 250%. This enlargement highlights each fluctuation in color, while the paper's contours and crevices become almost tactile. Familiar situations ("It is light") acquire an inviting air of mystery, and whimsical flourishes, such as the girl demonstrating that she is "low" by kneeling beneath a flower, seem natural elements in Grejniec's idiosyncratic universe. Ages 5-8. |
